What Is Love?

What is love that it makes us humble
To lay down our pride like a child
And to feel so small and vulnerable?

What is love that it causes men to be truthful
And can tame the deceitful heart?

What is love that it musters up courage
To borrow the spirit of the Dutch
And then makes mice of men?

What is love that it makes people daydream for endless days
To fall head over heels and then heels over head?

What is love that it has its own seasons;
Of dry spells and the monsoon
Of blistering heat and freezing cold?

What is love that it causes the heart
To be like a bird trying to escape from its cage?

What is love that it makes us go the extra mile
To transcend all boundaries
And break all barriers?

What is love that it causes us to sacrifice all we ever had
For something we might never own?

What is love that makes us yearn after God
To be aware of our many weaknesses
That we may become as perfect as He is?

What is love that it makes us wish
That we will have no other gift than this?

What is love that tempts my itching heart
To know if she feels the same way too?
Tell me, cause I need to know?
