BIBLE VERSES ABOUT TEMPTATION
1. HOW JESUS SEES SINNERS
Jesus sees sinners as lost sheep that He is trying to find. He rejoices in them more than those who are righteous.
Psalms 119:176
I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek Your servant, for I have not forgotten Your commands.
Luke 15:1-7
Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear Him.
But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This Man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
Then Jesus told them this parable:
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders
and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
2. SOURCES OF TEMPTATION
The sources of temptation are our heart and the devil.
Jeremiah 17:9
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Matthew 4:1
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
3. WHY WE SHOULD NOT SIN
The devil is not your friend or a good master. You must worship God with a pure body, which is His temple.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
1 Peter 2:11
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
4. WHY WE CAN OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS
We have authority and ability from God to overcome the work of demons. God has a good future planned for us. Jesus himself has gone through temptations and yet not sinned. He can understand our struggles and will provide a means for us to overcome temptation.
Luke 10:17-19
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name."
He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Hebrews 2:5-11
It is not to angels that He has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
But there is a place where someone has testified: "What is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?
You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor
and put everything under his feet. In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
Romans 8:28, 31, 37
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Isaiah 54:15-17
If anyone does attack you, it will not be My doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you.
"See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;
No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from Me," declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
1 Corinthians 10:12
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
5. HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS
Know the truth, think about the truth, use the truth and obey the truth, which is the Word of God(Bible). Resist evil thoughts, the devil and loving the world. Approach God for help in defeating temptations.
Proverbs 3:27
For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
Romans 12:2-3
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Psalms 119:97-105
Oh, how I love Your law! I meditate on it all day long.
Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.
I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on Your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey Your precepts.
I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.
Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a Light for my path.
Hebrews 4:12
For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Psalms 119:9,11
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word.
I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
1 Peter 5:6-10
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
James 4:7-8
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
