The Point of Being Human
Poets pine for words and rhymes
Prophets pray and look for signs
Philosophers observe and seek
The wisdom of the ancients and the meek
What is life and how do we find
Meaning for our humankind
What is emotion and why does it wash
Me down like sand on the shores of life
Joy melodious and peace tranquil
Rage of a volcano with a searing fuse
Love that lays the soul naked and bare
The flames of justice refuse to cease
My heart is a captive
A bird waiting to fly
My mind like flotsam in the open sea
Broken and lost for all to see
Remember to feel small and humble
When you stand beside a mountain
Be in awe of the vast ocean
When you're a small boat
A problem unsolved
A life we could not save
A question with no answers
A tongue we did not tame
When darkness covers like a shroud
And hope of victory is stormy bleak
When light is at one corner of the horizon
And you're at the end of oblivion
Never regret the past
Nor be fearful of the present
The future is uncertain
Life goes on as usual
The death of conscience awakes
My pride out of its slumber
Like a stone with many layers
My heart stands defiant
On a rickety bridge to nowhere
With only the rushing river beneath me
When the gods are mocking with laughter loud
I remember, I am only flesh and blood
